Over the Bridge…
We awoke to a beautiful day today within sight of Lake Huron
and the Mackinac Bridge. Glorious day
with lots of sun and beautiful skies and no rain! We spent a little time along the lake
photographing the Bridge and watching the ships come by. Mackinaw City is so generous with its
lakefront space—lots of access for the public’s enjoyment. We also visited two lighthouses before
heading north. The Bridge connects
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with the rest of the state.

The residents of the UP refer to the people who live south
of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron as “trolls” because they “live under the
bridge,” which is what the legendary trolls supposedly do. The Bridge is an amazing architectural
structure and is painted rich green and ivory colors that glisten in the
sunshine.
Thirty-one years ago, Robin and I crossed the bridge and
enjoyed a week camping on the Upper Peninsula, and we wanted to revisit some of
those places. After leaving Lakes Michigan
and Huron behind, our first sighting of Superior was at Whitefish Bay on our
way to Munising, near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
It was mostly a day of travel along the vast, blue-green waters and allowed us lots of opportunities to appreciate so many natural resources.
